The Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition: Discovery Expansion introduces four innovative mechanics to enhance your gameplay experience. These include awards, milestones, upgraded phase cards, and wild tags, each designed to enrich the strategic depth of the base game.

COMPETE FOR AWARDS

Players can vie for end-of-game scoring advantages through awards. At the start of the game, three awards are drawn, setting the stage for competition. The player with the most of a specified item will earn 5 Victory Points (VP), while the runner-up will receive 2 VP.

ACHIEVE MILESTONES FOR VICTORY

Milestones offer additional opportunities for scoring during the game. Players will strive to be the first to achieve specific milestones, awarding the first player with 3 VP at the conclusion of the game.

UPGRADE YOUR PHASE CARDS

Certain new project and corporation cards feature upgrades for phase cards. Each phase card can be enhanced with one of two versions, granting players more substantial bonuses when they engage with that phase.

WILD TAGS FOR STRATEGIC FLEXIBILITY

New project cards come equipped with a wild tag feature. When a player reveals such a card, they can choose the specific tag it represents at that moment, with tokens used to track this choice throughout the game.
